Under the artistic leadership of Esa-Pekka Salonen, the Baltic Sea Festival which takes place from 21-30 August in Stockholm is now in full swing. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducted the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra with a concertante performance of Janácek's From the House of the Dead as well as the Swedish Radio Orchestra with the world premiere of Holocene, a collaborative artwork by author Majgull Axelsson, composer Jonas Bohlin and video artist Lars Siltberg. Next he will appear at the Salzburger Festspiele with the Vienna Philharmonic conducting Mahler's Third Symphony on August 29 and 30. The new season starts with concerts in Los Angeles, giving the first concert of his last season with Los Angeles Philharmonic and in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra where he begins his new position as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor.
